Videos show the Boeing 757 landing at the capital’s Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, Costa Rica, and first proceeding on the runway before going off the runway and breaking in two. The fire brigade used foam to prevent a fire. Costa Rica’s fire chief, Héctor Chaves, announced Thursday that both people on board were unharmed.
The plane involved in the accident is a DHL Boeing 757-200F. The freighter with the registration HP-2010DAE is 22 years old. It was initially unclear what the plane was loaded with at the time of the accident. Flight operations in San Juan were affected for several hours.
