“Basically, for me, home is wherever Renée is with me. It is my most important home,” said Otto Schenk (91) once about his wife. Now he is alone. Renée Schenk died on Thursday after a long illness at the age of 96 in Villa Schenk on Irrsee in Upper Austria. This was announced by the theater in der Josefstadt of the APA.
Since their marriage in 1956, the Schenks have been among the best-known proponents of the stage and theater scene in Austria. The two had met at the legendary Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where the older Renée was still studying under her maiden name, Michaelis. Initially, Renée, who was affectionately called “Mika” by her husband, was still an actress herself before she gave up her own career in favor of her Otto.
For example, she could be seen as Maria in the legendary ORF series “Family Leitner”. And at the Josefstadt she was in the 1955/56 season as Ida in “By Candlelight” by Karl Farkas and Siegfried Geyer, 1958/59 as Daisy Delahay in the legendary tabloid comedy “Charleys Tante” and most recently in 1968/69 as Yvonne in ” Heartfelt Condolences” by Georges Feydeau. The Schenks’ son Konstantin, who was born in 1957, was already in the world.
