In an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the pictures in Bucha in great detail. He issued a warning to Russia. “We are dealing with a state that converts the veto of the United Nations Security Council into the right to death,” he warned. In his speech he said that he himself had just returned from Bucha. Russian forces would have searched for everyone there and killed them on purpose.
He spoke to the Security Council in honor of the deceased. Honoring those people who were shot in the head, thrown down fountains and crushed by tanks while sitting in their cars. In this context he also mentioned those people whose limbs were cut off and tongues torn out. “Murdering Russians cut off the tongues of civilians,” he said. “Women were shot in front of their own children”.
It is now time for reforms. Zelenskyy urged the Council to remove the Russian Federation so that it can no longer block decisions about its aggression. Alternatively, the Security Council could also “dissolve completely” if it cannot act.
He ended his speech with a call for peace. “Ukraine needs peace. The world needs peace”.
