The government had actually decided at the beginning of March to relax all corona measures, including the abolition of the mask requirement. But a little later it was over again and the backtrack followed – the increasing numbers made it necessary.
Health Minister Johannes Rauch declared in mid-March: The “far-reaching opening steps” of March 5 were decided on the basis of data and forecasts that “did not come true”. That is why the openings were “too far-reaching and too early”, and they also caused dissatisfaction within the state crisis coordination (Gecko).
It’s different in Switzerland: There have been no masks there for seven weeks now. The easing that took place in February has been maintained to this day – and that’s not all: On Friday, April 1st, the Swiss Minister of Health declared the pandemic phase of the corona virus to be completely over and lifted all corona rules: “The crisis is not over, but the tense period is behind us.” Since then, no tests, no masks, no quarantine and no 3G have been prescribed for the Swiss neighbors. And the corona numbers are falling there too.
The corona numbers in Switzerland and Austria have been developing almost parallel for weeks, only in Switzerland at a lower level. Visible effects of the different corona management are not recognizable. In Switzerland as well as in Austria, the number of Covid cases began to fall at the same time – in one case with, in the other without masks.
You can see: It is also possible without masks, at least within the Swiss borders. That makes some people frown.
