It was one of the biggest annoyances of the pandemic, in the new “Medicus” talk, top doctors Dr. Marcus Franz and eXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmitt disagree: In the middle of the lockdown, politicians and ORF officials celebrated a boisterous “Licht ins Dunkel” gala on the Küniglberg. In doing so, they flouted the very same corona rules that they had previously decided on themselves and demanded from the citizens.
The result was 150 ads – but there were no consequences: It was an “urgent professional meeting”, so penalties for the celebrities did not follow.
Marcus Franz speaks of “treatment with double standards”. People who don’t wear a mask or leave quarantine briefly to take the garbage down have to pay fines, but political celebrities get away with it. “Apparently they don’t believe the virus is dangerous themselves?” asks Richard Schmitt. In any case, Marcus Franz sees a devastating signal.
All citizens no longer feel that they are being taken seriously: Some then don’t give a damn about the Corona rules, while others who take them seriously also feel alienated. Some of the regulations do not even make sense, such as wearing the masks outdoors.
