Franco Foda’s era comes to an end this Tuesday with the international match against Scotland. The German officially announced his resignation as ÖFB team boss on Monday. The search for a successor is now in full swing. A few names are already being traded in the background – including Gerhard Struber, currently a coach at Red Bull New York.
But the former Wolfsberg AC coach does not see himself as a candidate. “I am honored to be repeatedly mentioned as a candidate for this interesting position. But that’s not an option for me at the moment. I have a great job here in New York and I would like to continue working with a team every day and constantly develop it,” the coach told the Austria Press Agency (APA).
Nevertheless, the task for Struber would be “extremely interesting” in the future. “To be responsible for choosing his country is a huge honor.” Gruber was at Wolfsberger AC before joining New York Red Bull. He then coached the English second division club Barnsley. Before that, he had gone through several coaching positions with the Red Bull Salzburg youth team.
