After heart attack reports: Is Moscow tricking with pictures of Putin’s minister?

First he disappeared without a trace, then it transpired that the Russian defense minister had suffered a heart attack. After a two-week absence, pictures of Sergei Shoigu have now been circulated. And they cause a stir.

Russia’s Defense Ministry is doing everything it can to calm the excitement surrounding Shoigu. A video is said to show him chairing a meeting on the Russian defense budget. But the video is not dated – which calls doubters on the scene.

The man without a shadow?

Florian Gallwitz, Professor of Computer Science and Media at the Technical University of Nuremberg, raises allegations of manipulation. Conclusion: “I can’t shake the feeling that the technical skills of Russian propaganda were occasionally overestimated.”

What makes the experts suspicious? Reflections include the Russian flag behind Shoigu in the video. However, the minister himself cannot be seen in the reflection. But it’s not just the reflection that’s missing – the video doesn’t even mention the military operation in Ukraine. Extremely odd for a Secretary of Defense.
