Political expert Ralph Schöllhammer (Webster University) fears that the NATO summit together with US President Joe Biden will probably be more of a show in a talk with eXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmitt. A real trend reversal, for example in oil, gas and coal, is unlikely.
What Europe lacks in particular is geopolitical thinking. This is more important than moralizing. “Why don’t we want a Ukrainian vassal state?” You should talk about it openly instead of just moralizing.
All other exciting topics related to the war in Ukraine are also discussed. Schöllhammer explains, for example, how Trump ultimately acted very differently than he spoke and was much tougher on Moscow than Joe Biden initially was. “In the four Trump years, Russia didn’t do anything, only then did it become much more aggressive again.”
Germany’s failed Ostpolitik over the past 20 years is also discussed. The political scientist also shows why the people in Ukraine are now victims of the ideological preferences of the media elite, who have completely forgotten about the geopolitical realities in addition to the nuclear phase-out, climate change and alternative energies.
The exciting talk is also dedicated to the future. Schöllhammer emphasizes that Europe certainly has the potential to become a great power, but is it actually using it?
