Case Leonie: Suspicious Afghan finally extradited to Vienna
In June 2021, 13-year-old Leonie was raped, abused and strangled. Her body was then simply laid under a tree in Donaustadt. The suspected Afghan who managed to escape to London resisted being extradited to Austria for months. Now he has finally been transferred.
In the case of the 13-year-olds killed in Vienna in June 2021, the fourth suspect was extradited from Great Britain to Austria on Wednesday. That said a spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor’s office. “He has been here since Wednesday and has already been questioned.” The applications for the imposition of pre-trial detention would be prepared.
Afghan wanted asylum in England
He was arrested at the end of July 2021 and has since been in extradition custody, against which he appealed in January 2022. Apparently that has now been denied. The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office did not want to say how the suspect was responsible for his interrogation.
The delivery of Rasuili Z. was imminent several times (the eXXpress reported), but was always delayed indefinitely. The second oldest accused in the Leonie case, who is now 23 years old, managed to escape across the Austrian border across Europe and to London last year, most recently Z. sought asylum in Great Britain with the help of his lawyer (eXXpress also reported extensively here).
memories of the horror
Leonie came from the Lower Austrian district of Tulln, her death shook all of Austria in the summer of 2021 and made waves far beyond the national borders. According to previous investigations, the schoolgirl, who was 13 at the time of the crime, is said to have met the youngest suspected Afghan on the Danube Canal in Vienna on June 25, where she is said to have been administered ecstasy. Then she is said to have been brought by the alleged 16-year-old to the apartment of an 18-year-old. There, the girl was allegedly given more drugs. At least two of the four suspects are said to have raped her.
When Leonie lost consciousness, the men got nervous. They are said to have given her milk and yoghurt and held her under a shower. But the young teenager showed no more signs of life. They are said to have wrapped the girl in a carpet and leaned against a tree on a green verge. Passersby discovered Leonie’s lifeless body the next morning.
