Like many other Austrians, the well-known Viennese doctor can only shake his head at the pictures from the Happel Stadium over the weekend – writes Dr. Marcus Franz on Twitter: “Guaranteed high aerosol density with simultaneous release of masks and lack of distance in the concert kettle, where everyone is shouting loudly, shaking and shaking tightly together. If anyone needs another symbol or proof of Phariseeism, now they have both: Vienna singing and laughing.”
Just a few days ago, the red-pink Vienna city government announced that the measures taken by the federal government in the fight against the current corona wave would not go far enough, that loosening that had already been issued would have been irresponsible.
Then came the date for the benefit concert for Ukraine: the FFP2 masks promised for the concert could not be seen in the crowd at any rate – the visitors sang along with the live songs on Saturday, close together, for hours next to dozens of others crowded into concert-goers.
Even the Federal President may not have really known how to behave at this event: A photo shows Alexander Van der Bellen with an FFP2 mask in the Happel Stadium, but another without …
In any case, there has been an emotional debate about the event on the social media pages since Saturday: Some think that “the skeptics shouldn’t spoil the nice action”.
However, the vast majority is fuming about this one from Dr. Marcus Franz’s well-described pharisaism: “We are being sectarian and have to continue shopping with FFP2 masks – but partying for hours for the ‘morally correct’ purpose, that’s also possible without a mask.”
Many demonstrators who had to pay fines on Saturdays are now taking to Facebook and asking: “Why didn’t the police intervene at this event? At the Saturday demos of the critics of the Corona policy, many fines were distributed.
In any case, it will become even more difficult for Vienna’s city politicians to continue to warn with gloomy faces about the continued high risk of infection and to continue to propagate the “consistent tough course” – and this problem can no longer be caught after the concert on Saturday.
