Election without an election observer?
The MFG was only allowed to send one election observer. However, all 4 curiae were counted at the same time, which makes serious election observation impossible. The envelopes for the postal vote were already delivered to the ÄK by post on Friday and kept in a room. These were then counted on Saturday with the votes cast on site. A transparent procedure for the safekeeping of the envelopes could not be specified by MA 40 of the Municipality of Vienna (as the responsible election commission) despite inquiries. Not even who has access to these premises. MFG drew attention to these questionable circumstances in advance – unfortunately without result. It was also strange that the ÄK announced that they wanted to donate EUR 10 to refugees from the Ukraine for every vote cast. This could have resulted in asymmetrical voter mobilization. The MFG lawyers are now examining the general legality of this ballot.
