“Maintain proportionality” – free tests remain, K1 quarantine falls

At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Health Minister Rauch (Greens) addressed the Austrians with reassuring words. “We are entering a new phase of the pandemic” in which no tightening is planned. Austrians can still have themselves tested five times a month free of charge.

The new Minister of Health has a much calmer tone than his predecessor, Wolfgang Mückstein. “We are now entering a new phase of the pandemic,” said the 66-year-old from Vorarlberg. “If you want to be tested, you can of course do so. Five PCR or antigen tests are still available to every Austrian per month,” said the Minister of Health. Although Austria is confronted with a peak in infections, Rauch rejects a renewed tightening of the measures and the reintroduction of the mask requirement called for by critics. “The effects would only come after the wave has already passed.”
