Once again people are taking to the streets in Vienna this weekend to demonstrate against the Corona measures. Two demonstrations have been announced for this Saturday. Already at 12.00 p.m. the demo “Stop Covid 19 Zwang” moved along the ring road to Franz Josefs Kai and back over the ring road to Schwarzenbergplatz. The second demonstration started at 3.45 p.m. “Free vaccination decision” at Heldenplatz. The demonstrators marched at Heldenplatz and then also along the Ringstrasse to Franz Josefs-Kai. According to the police, 3,000 participants were expected.
The demonstrations are also causing delays in the city center. The Wiener Linien announced that, for example, tram line 2 only runs between Dornbach and Ring, Volkstheater and Friedrich-Engels-Platz and Taborstraße/Heinestraße. In addition, Line D cannot run between Schwarzenbergplatz and Börse.
Another demonstration is expected tomorrow, Sunday. However, this is marked by the Ukraine war. 5000 people are expected here. At 4 p.m. the demonstrators gather – how could it be otherwise – at Heroes’ Square. Here, too, delays must be expected. The ARBÖ advises avoiding the city center and switching to public transport if possible.
