The star player of the USA is accused of drug offenses. Now Griner faces ten years imprisonment. The Russian customs authority emphasized on Saturday that “evaporators” and “a liquid with a special smell” were found. “The Basketball Federation is aware of and closely monitoring Brittney Griner’s legal position in Russia. Brittney has always handled herself with the utmost professionalism throughout her long career with the national team, and her safety and well-being are our primary concerns,” the Basketball Association of the United States wrote on Twitter.
The athlete’s hand luggage was searched in February. According to Russian information, an expert has determined that the suspicious substance is intoxicating cannabis oil. Griner currently plays in the women’s WNBA league with Phoenix Mercury. Last summer she was the most successful thrower of her team at the Olympic Winter Games in Tokyo with 30 points.
