During the ORF the green Johannes Rauch already celebrated as the successor to Health Minister Mückstein, his wife, the Vorarlberg SPÖ politician Gabriele Sprickler-Falschlunger, is already making massive negative headlines online. At a freedom rally in Bregenz, she repeatedly referred to the demonstrators as “fascists” and the rally as a “fascist gathering”.
By Edith Broetzner
The statements of the SPÖ politician can be clearly heard on the mobile phone video of a demo visitor. She also ignores the repeated objections from rally participants that people are taking to the streets for freedom. Instead, she draws Nazi comparisons and even goes so far as to mention her grandfather in this context, who was said to have been in a concentration camp. One of the participants in the rally asks the politician to repeat what she has just said. While Sprickler-Falselunger repeatedly repeated “You’re running with the fascists”, her statement “such a fascist crowd” at the end of the video was particularly shocking.
The VOL.AT reporter Joachim Mangard also praises the verbal gaffes of Sprickler-Falslunger as “attitude” and “courage”. Twitter. One feels reminded of the many procedures under the Prohibition Act, with which the judiciary is currently taking action against opponents. These days, because of careless comparisons, they are quickly accused of playing down the Nazi era. In Linz, the demo organizer Florian Ortner has been in custody for six weeks because of this allegation, among other things.
Our request below to Gabriele Sprickler-Falschlunger, the wife of our likely future Health Minister Johannes Rauch, has so far remained unanswered:
“Dear Mrs. Sprickler-Falschlunger,
To ensure journalistic due diligence, I would like to ask you to comment on a video that has been circulating on social media since January 31, 2022. On the video you can see how, at a freedom rally in Bregenz, you describe demonstrators who are emphasizing their freedom to take to the streets as “fascists” and the rally as a “gathering of fascists”. In this context, you also mention your grandfather, who was in a concentration camp, in this video.
The VOL.AT reporter Joachim Mangard praises you with the words in a Twitter post in which he shares this video “While many remain silent or tolerate, SPÖ lady Gabriele Sprickler-Falschlunger shows attitude. Today in Bregenz. Chapeau to so much courage. #corona #fascism #demo #lateral thinker #bregenz #courage #weristdasvolk #silent majority @vorarlberg”
In the course of my reporting, I ask you to answer a few important questions:
What makes you say that the rally was a “congestion of fascists”?
Were there symbols to be seen at the rally or were statements made there that prompted you to make your statement?
To whom exactly did you refer your statements?
Comparisons with National Socialism are usually prosecuted under the Prohibition Act as trivialization. Have there already been investigations or inquiries in your case?
How do you see the impact of your statements and the video that supports your statements accordingly on your husband’s likely work as future Minister of Health?
We thank you for your comprehensive statement and remain with best regards”
