In view of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the German energy group RWE is examining options such as extending the terms of money– and gas-fired power plants could respond to a supply crisis in Germany. “Now it must be a matter of taking precautions to ensure security of supply in Germany even for a crisis scenario in which raw material deliveries from Russia fail to materialize,” the group said on Wednesday.
This applies above all to the coming winter and the next few years. “In our view, it is correct that the federal government has options in the area money and gas checks,” the group said when asked by Reuters.
The German Economics Minister Robert Habeck said on Deutschlandfunk radio that Germany was well prepared in the event of a Russian gas supply freeze. In the worst case, coal-fired power plants could be held in reserve or even left in operation.
