Ukraine’s President is calling on the West to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine. However, this would mean that the Americans would have to shoot down Russian planes. This would be the trigger for World War III.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has urged the West to consider imposing a no-fly zone against Russian planes. Zelensky appealed directly to Joe Biden on Monday to consider a no-fly zone for “significant parts” of Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader made the comments in an exclusive Axios report. He explained to Axiosthat Ukrainian forces have a chance to “defeat the aggressor” if Western allies are willing to “do their part.” He stated that this would result in less bloodshed and spare civilians.
In a statement Monday, however, Biden not only ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine, but press secretary Jen Psaki stressed that a no-fly zone was also ruled out, as both scenarios draw Washington into direct war with Russia and likely World War III would lead. “Here’s what everyone should know about a no-fly zone: This would require implementation by the US military. It would essentially mean that the US military would shoot down Russian planes.” said Psaki on Monday to MSNBC.
In addition to the current measures, Zelensky had said: “The sanctions are going in the right direction. Along with decoupling the Central Bank of Russia from SWIFT and deploying more Stingers and anti-tank weapons, we need the West to impose a no-fly zone over key parts of Ukraine.”
However, the question arises as to why the Ukrainian President wants such an escalation. Should there actually be a military showdown between Russia and NATO, this would possibly also include the use of nuclear weapons. His country, which he wants to save, would be crushed between the world powers, like Poland did in World War II, which lost around 40 percent of its population. Is that what the Ukrainian leadership wants?
