Ukraine was attacked from several borders: Russia, Belarus and Crimea. According to the state Ukrainian border service, attacks took place in the regions of Luhansk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr. These areas are located in the eastern and northern borders of Ukraine. The attacks targeted border units, border patrols and checkpoints, using artillery, heavy equipment and small arms.
Kiev: In the Ukrainian capital, reporters heard explosions coming from the east, where the international airport is also located. Social media users reported hearing multiple explosions in the area of Boryspil, a town east of the capital with a population of about 63,000. Attacks on the airport have not yet been confirmed.
Kharkiv – the second largest city in Ukraine after Kiev with around 1.5 million inhabitants – is located in the north-east of the country: Eyewitnesses report a “flood of loud explosions”.
Kramatorsk: Two people in this eastern city, some 120 kilometers north of separatist-held Donetsk, say they heard at least two massive explosions.
Dnipro: A central city resident said he heard “some explosions”. With around one million inhabitants, Dnipro is the fourth largest city in Ukraine after Kiev, Kharkiv and Odessa.
Mariupol: Two residents reported hearing explosions east of the city in the south-east of the country.
Odessa: Reporters in the Black Sea port city heard two explosions about 20 minutes apart.
Zaporizhzhia: At least one very distant explosion was heard.
Belgorod: The city is located about 80 kilometers north of Kharkiv. Here, too, there are reports of a large number of impacts that sounded like artillery fire.
