The United States has again warned the Ukrainian government: Latest intelligence points to an imminent Russian invasion – in the next 48 hours. This is reported by Ukrainian, American and other Western officials.
According to a NATO military, NATO allies have received a similar intelligence assessment. The official cautions that no one knows for sure what Putin will do.
Of particular concern is the situation in the large city of Kharkiv in the north-east of the country, senior Ukrainian officials and a Western official said. There are no plans to evacuate the city, Ukraine’s foreign minister said on Tuesday. “We have no such plans,” Dmytro Kuleba underlined during a press conference in Washington alongside US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Videos on social media show tanks and support vehicles piling up less than 30 kilometers from the Russian border.
US officials anticipate both a ground invasion and airstrikes in the event of an invasion. “Russian missiles and bombs are being dropped on Ukraine. Communication will be disrupted. Cyber attacks will cripple key Ukrainian facilities,” Blinken told the UN Security Council last week. “After that, Russian tanks and soldiers will advance towards key targets that have already been identified and laid out in detailed plans.”
