Soccer champion Red Bull Salzburg is struggling with a corona cluster. As the “bulls” announced on Wednesday, 15 people from the team and support staff gave positive tests on Tuesday. Therefore, the two training sessions scheduled for Wednesday were canceled and replaced by a home program. In addition, further test series will be carried out by the players and supervisors in the coming days, according to the broadcast.
According to the people of Salzburg, some of those affected suffer from “rather mild symptoms” and are in quarantine in accordance with official requirements. In response to the positive tests carried out after a two-day break in training, hygiene and safety measures around the team have been stepped up. No spectators are allowed during the training sessions. All public events will also be canceled or postponed.
Sports director Christoph Freund explained: “We are currently still ready to train and play. However, we now have to monitor the further development of the uninfected players very closely in coordination with our medical department and react to them if necessary.
Salzburg’s next game is on Sunday in the league away against LASK, on the following Wednesday the ÖFB Cup semi-final away against WAC is on the agenda. The second leg in the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern will take place on March 8th in Munich.
