In the midst of the pandemic and the Ukraine conflict – both exceptional situations that are keeping the whole world in suspense – Austria’s domestic politics are not lacking in explosive events these days. One of the “hottest” topics of the next few days is the upcoming investigative committee on the ÖVP corruption affair – which the President of the National Council will chair: “An investigative committee is a political weapon – and a very sharp one at that,” explains Wolfgang Sobotka.
When asked whether, in view of the many scandals on the red-white-red political parquet – the eXXpress only recently uncovered the plagiarism affair surrounding the doctoral thesis of Justice Minister Alma Zadic – a debate on decency is once again necessary, Sobotka answers with more than one “Yes”: “We always need a decency debate, you always have to have it,” the NR President clarifies. One should always ask oneself the question – every politician across party affiliations as well as representatives of “public and published opinion”: Am I living up to what the law demands and what my conscience demands?
To what extent this can be implemented, how Sobotka would like to make his contribution to ensuring that we “all take a step towards each other again” and how the President of the National Council sees the situation surrounding the Ukraine conflict, you can see that and more in today’s issue of “10 vor 8” – at 7.50 p.m. only exclusively here on eXXpressTV and on Magenta Kabelkanal 170!
