Köstinger reprimands Ludwig: “Should listen to experts”

Minister Köstinger rebukes Mayor Ludwig: “Should listen to experts”

Vienna stays different. And above all very careful. The fact that Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) once again turns out to be a shock to every “opening party” brings him a rebuke from the Minister of Tourism. “Ludwig would be well advised to follow expert opinions,” warns Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP).

On March 5th, many corona rules in Austria will at least be put into “standby mode”. The 3G rule then also falls. Gecko experts had previously given the go-ahead for far-reaching easing. But Vienna’s mayor remains on the brakes and insists on strict measures such as access restrictions in the catering trade. Only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered should be allowed to celebrate in nightclubs in the capital. Köstinger complains that these stricter measures in Vienna would “affect gastronomy and tourism companies very much”. The restrictions are “not an end in themselves”, giving people more freedom is “the order of the day”, said the minister in “Puls4”.

Mayor wants to keep gargling

Ludwig also sticks to the tests. He hopes to be able to win over the federal government. Because the Viennese test regime – “Everything gurgles” – has not only proven itself in terms of health policy, but also economically, according to the red city manager.

This applies from March 5th in the rest of Austria

Elimination of all measures, except for highly vulnerable settings (retirement and nursing homes/hospitals: 3G for employees, service providers and visitors)

Opening of night gastronomy, lifting of the ban on consumption at events

FFP2 obligation in highly vulnerable settings (retirement and nursing homes/hospitals), in public transport including its stops and in customer areas of essential trade (pharmacies, food retail, banks,
Post offices, etc.)

In all other settings, an FFP2 recommendation applies to closed rooms

Maintain prevention concepts and COVID officers everywhere

3G as a general rule when entering the country from all countries (except virus variant areas)

First loosening from February 19th

The first easing will take place from February 19th. Then almost all 2G requirements will be converted to 3G (cable cars, bus trips, excursion boats, body-related services, sports facilities, trade and public fairs, events).

End of the mask requirement

Masks must continue to be worn in areas of vital infrastructure. These include grocery stores, pharmacies and hospitals. Otherwise the masks fall everywhere! Not good news for commuters, however: the FFP2 obligation also continues to apply to public transport.

Night gastro also opens

Even if Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein repeatedly emphasizes that the PK is not over yet, the night restaurant can breathe a sigh of relief. Also in discos and clubs there will be no more access regulations and no more green passports.
