Two years ago, the parents lost custody of their daughters in New York State. When the authorities wanted to take the then four-year-old girl, the parents fled with the little one. The older daughter was still in school at the time of the kidnapping. She now lives with a legal guardian, according to the New York Post.
Particularly explosive: A few times there were witnesses to the child in the house. But whenever officials stopped by, the parents denied the child was with them. Even a multiple search of the house brought no result, as the local police chief explained. After another hint then finally the liberation. After hours of searching, an investigator discovered something on the stairs leading down to the basement from the back of the house. The officer noticed that the construction of the staircase and its steps was not entirely consistent, shone a flashlight inside – and discovered a ceiling through the cracks, police said. “The officers used tools to remove steps and then they saw a pair of tiny feet,” reports NBC News.
The child sat in the hiding place with the mother. Paramedics determined that the girl was in good health. It was given to legal guardian and merged with her older sister. According to information from “Bild”, the parents were accused of disturbing custody and endangering the well-being of a child.
