At the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, the Australian curling couple Tahil Gil and Dean Hewitt tested positive for Corona. Nevertheless, the duo can continue in the mixed competition. This comes just hours after they were told they would have to withdraw from the Beijing Olympics. A team of medical experts showed leniency after reviewing Ct levels from Gil’s PCR tests over the past 24 hours. The values fell into an acceptable range, it said.
Gil (22) caught the corona virus before the Winter Games in Beijing. After two negative tests, however, she was allowed to start at the games. But on Saturday she presented several positive tests, which is why she had to be in isolation.
The doubles, which are now allowed to start under strict contact restrictions, had lost all of their previous seven games. The two had received a lot of attention in their home country as Australia’s first Olympic curlers. Later, after a 6-3 deficit, Gill/Hewitt managed to win Australia’s first ever Olympic curling match with a 9-6 win over Switzerland.
