It was the first official day at the Winter Games in Beijing – and from an Austrian point of view it was a real day of joy. Teresa Stadlober was able to win the first medal in skiathlon. Stadlober finished third behind the Norwegian Therese Johaug and the Russian Natalia Neprjajewa in the skiathlon competition (each 7.5 km classic and skating) and thus won the first Austrian women’s cross-country skiing medal at the Winter Games.
In addition, Anna Gasser qualified for the slopestyle final (Sunday 2:30 a.m. Central European Time). Her run wasn’t flawless. In the end, however, Gasser made it to the final with ease.
The Winter Olympics in Beijing are controversial – on the one hand because of the problematic human rights situation. But Corona is also putting its stamp on the Winter Games. For example, the ski jumpers Sara Marita Kramer and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger cannot take part in the Winter Games. What does Austria actually think about the Winter Games? eXXpressTV conducted an opinion poll on this.
In addition, Peter Kaiser will speak to Dominik Hana about plans to bid for the 2034 Winter Olympics. According to media reports, Carinthia is considering applying for the 2034 Winter Olympics together with Friuli and Slovenia. Be sure to tune in to eXXpressTV at 6:30 p.m.!
