The vaccination requirement came into force on Saturday – but the start was accompanied by a single chaos. The main reason for this is the electronic health portal ELGA. The portal is intended to record, among other things, those people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons – but this is currently not possible. The start could even last until April – but what does that mean for me exactly?
A certificate of exemption cannot be issued by the doctor or the office without the ELGA portal. Unvaccinated people can therefore not be exempted from the obligation to vaccinate and therefore cannot produce a certificate for any checks. Penalties for violating the vaccination requirement will also only be possible with the start of the ELGA.
the compulsory vaccination Applies to all persons residing in Austria over the age of 18. Exceptions are made for pregnant women and those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons, and – to a limited extent – also for those who have recovered. In the event of non-compliance, up to 600 euros will be due in the so-called “simplified procedure” and up to 3,600 euros in the “ordinary procedure”. In the first phase after the entry into force, however, no penalties will be imposed until mid-March.
