Austria celebrates the first medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Teresa Stadlober from Salzburg won bronze in the skiathlon. Stadlober finished third behind the Norwegian Therese Johaug and the Russian Natalia Neprjajewa in the skiathlon competition (each 7.5 km classic and skating) and thus won the first Austrian women’s cross-country skiing medal at the Winter Games.
It was an exciting race. Stadlober loses ten seconds when changing skis, but catches up in skating. In the end she can still improve and ends up in third place.
