Fourth trick recommended: Now the booster is boosted
While the Federal Council in Vienna is probably deciding to make vaccinations compulsory for Austrians from the age of 18, experts are expanding the vaccination subscription for citizens. The Vaccination Commission will soon recommend a second booster vaccination with the existing mRNA vaccines. Data from Israel suggested that it increases vaccine protection.
According to its chairman Thomas Mertens, the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) in Germany is preparing a recommendation for a fourth corona vaccination. “Recent data from Israel suggest that a fourth dose produces some improvement in protection against infection and more significant improvement in protection against serious illness.”
Mutation vaccines are a long time coming
As for proprietary vaccines that have been adapted for the Omicron variant, the Commission must first wait for the data from the Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer clinical trials, Mertens said.
