The German anti-doping agency NADA already warned against doping in meat during the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. That is why NADA gave the athletes nutritional tips. For example, athletes can involuntarily dope themselves with food in China. According to a report by “Bild”, the German bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich (31) will voluntarily do without meat in his hotel – for fear of doping!
According to Olympic doctor Christian Schneider, this is a precautionary measure. “Growing agents are used in meat production in various countries, including here in China. These means can be proven in the potential case of doping. You know that,” said the doctor.
Friedrich and his brakeman arrived early, which is why they are not staying in the Olympic Village, but in a hotel outside. However, only in the Olympic Village is there guaranteed doping-free meat. They go once a day to the Olympic Village, 30 minutes away. The hotel therefore only serves vegetarian dishes. There was already one doping case in 2010. Table tennis ace Dimitri Ovtcharov (33) tested positive twice for the growth hormone clenbuterol after returning to Germany. The table tennis star was then acquitted.
