After the Association of Socialist Students in Austria (VSStÖ) caused a scandal on Instagram, the Socialist Party is now taking action and clearly distancing itself from the statements made by its young students. As a reminder, the post vehemently attacked the executive branch, demanding that the police force be abolished “as a whole”. The reason: racism and sexism are inherent. After criticism on the Internet, the top candidate of the VSStö followed up and wrote “acab”, the abbreviation for “all cops are bastards” (reported by eXXpress). With this opinion, she is obviously alone in her party – now SPÖ grandees have spoken out in an official statement and sharply condemn these statements.
SPÖ federal director Christian Deutsch and SPÖ Vienna state party secretary Barbara Novak, BA, “clearly distance themselves from yesterday’s posting by the VSStÖ Vienna,” said an official broadcast early Wednesday afternoon. “The federal SPÖ and the SPÖ Vienna expressly and clearly distance themselves from this completely unacceptable posting. We condemn these statements by the Vienna VSStÖ to our police,” emphasized Deutsch and Novak unanimously.
