On January 10, the Austrian airline AUA launched an appeal for new apprentices. However, this was followed by a real uproar: numerous former apprentices complained that the AUA was only “talking big”. Accordingly, 20 trained specialists were terminated shortly after the final exam. “Hypocrite. Real employees shouldn’t be fired because of short-time work, but they quietly kicked out almost all of the apprentices after they passed the final exam,” said a former AUA apprentice in an email to the Austrian Wings. Addendum: “At the beginning of the training we were promised a perspective in the company and then they dumped us coldly. None of us expected that.”
A spokeswoman for the Austrian airline had to confirm the allegations – they were justified due to austerity measures due to the corona pandemic. However, two of the fully trained apprentices were taken on, the statement said. Normally, the majority of young people are offered a job in the company after completing their training, but this is not possible due to the current economic situation. However, the spokeswoman emphasized that the AUA understands the displeasure of the people concerned and very much regrets the situation.
