Apparently to distract from the scandals surrounding him, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to announce a “Freedom Day 2.0” shortly. At least that’s what the “Sunday Times” reports on Sunday evening, according to which all corona measures are to be lifted on January 26th. In contrast to Austria, the omicron wave started earlier in Great Britain – but should now be over the mountain, as the latest figures show.
The easing is justified, among other things, by the fact that the high number of infections has not yet led to a similarly high number of hospitalizations. A development that is also being observed in this country. A general obligation to vaccinate is not in sight there. Meanwhile, critics say that Johnson’s “Freedom Day 2.0” only wants to distract from headlines about numerous party scandals.
