On April 19, 2021, one day before Adolf Hitler’s birthday, the Lower Austrian posted a smiley on Facebook and wrote: “Don’t forget, tomorrow there will be egg dumplings”. In court he was meek. “I’ve seen this on Facebook a number of times and thought nothing of it at all. Hitler was certainly not a good man. I am feeling ashamed for that.” He was sentenced to nine months imprisonment.
There have been a few (hopefully) thoughtless statements recently. In an already heated TV duel, the TV talker Sebastian Bohrn-Mena caused a scandal: he wants tougher action against corona demonstrators – the executive should use “flamethrowers” in addition to water cannons in the event of a riot. Whether the desire to set fire to demo participants will have consequences remains to be seen.
