Vienna is the 7th loudest city in Europe, as a ranking by the British financial services provider money.co.uk shows. After Paris, London, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester, Vienna is right behind. This is followed by Berlin, Birmingham and Milan. To this end, 23 metropolises across Europe were compared in terms of population density, road and air traffic and the number of entertainment options. In Vienna, road and rail traffic in particular causes a certain volume of noise.
It is loudest in Paris, where people are mainly exposed to road traffic and railway noise. Extensive traffic jams also cause noise in the French capital. Paris is a big cosmopolitan city with more than 2.1 million people, with common noises such as the bells of cyclists on the streets and crowds of people crowding into bars, it comes to the background noise, writes money.co.uk .
In second place is London. Around nine million people live in the British capital. But London was also the city with by far the largest air traffic of the cities on the list (181 million passengers in 2019). More than half a million people who are exposed to high levels of railway noise also live there.
Italy’s capital Rome was in third place. Rome had one of the highest congestion rates (38 percent), meaning rush hour journeys take 38 percent longer than normal conditions, and traffic is one of the most common sources of noise in the city.
