This is the first time that an ÖSV woman has made it onto the podium in a technology race this Alpine World Cup winter. Vlhova lived up to her role as favorite in the absence of Mikaela Shiffrin, who was missing due to a coronavirus infection, and took the expected victory. Already after the first round she was leading 0.08 seconds ahead of Gisin and 0.27 seconds ahead of Liensberger. For Vlhova it was the 23rd career success in the World Cup and the third (slalom) victory of the current season.
“I’m really happy,” said the second Liensberger in the ORF interview. “It was’nt easy. It really took full attack and full courage. ” With the fastest runtime in the finals, the troupe advanced from 13th place at halftime almost to the podium. “I like to take the best time with me. I know that I can ski well, ”emphasized the Carinthian. “So the year can end.” Gallhuber was also happy. “I think I showed that racing is still inside of me. It was very, very cool that I saw green again at the finish line. That has really not been in the World Cup race for a long time, ”said the Lower Austrian.
Katharina Huber (“The attack in the second run was already better”) finished the race in 15th place, Marie-Therese Sporer scored in 17th World Cup points. Chiara Mair was 23. Franziska Gritsch, Magdalena Egger and Stephanie Brunner had missed qualifying for the top 30 in the morning.
