Austria, which is strict in terms of lockdowns and Covid restrictions, has overtaken Sweden, which is considered liberal in this regard, in terms of deaths in relation to the number of inhabitants. A clear sign that draconian measures are pointless. It is time to finally take all of the measures back – completely.

The page that is extremely informative, especially with regard to Covid-19 “Swiss Policy Research”Has drawn attention to an interesting fact in a very readable article. In the meantime, the very strict Austria has overtaken the extremely liberal Sweden in terms of Covid mortality (i.e. people who according to official information died with or from Covid-19). Before that, the Scandinavian country, always scolded by the media and other governments, was always ahead of the Austrians in this regard.
Given that the two countries are very similar (as SPR clearly shows, see below), one can definitely draw a comparison with the usefulness of the so-called “Covid measures”. The result is sobering, especially for Austrian politicians. In particular, however, this can be seen as a request to finally lower all restrictions and to approach the whole thing in a much more liberal manner.

But is it really possible to legitimately compare Nordic Sweden and Alpine Austria? Indeed they can. First of all, their population size is quite similar (10.4 million in Sweden versus 9.0 million in Austria). While the median age in Sweden is somewhat lower than in Austria (41.1 vs. 44.4 years; perhaps due to the higher immigration), life expectancy in Sweden is even somewhat higher than in Austria (82.4 vs. 81.6 years ). The vaccination rates are very similar in Sweden and Austria (72% vs. 70%).
Interestingly, the population-weighted density, which takes urbanization into account, is slightly higher in Sweden than in Austria (2724 vs. 2191, see map below). The proportion of single households is also slightly higher in Sweden than in Austria (40% versus 36%, both very high values). The obesity rates are very similar in Sweden and Austria (20.6% vs. 20.1%). The capacity of intensive care units is significantly higher in Austria than in Sweden (5.3 vs. 1.9 beds per 1000 inhabitants).
Lockdowns and restrictions are utter nonsense
So if two countries that can be compared with each other use a completely different strategy to deal with the prevailing situation, but the result is in fact the same, then one should think that one should adapt the way that is generally better. In this case it means: Austria should follow the Swedish example. After all, according to the report, the death rate from / with Covid in both countries is 0.15 percent of the total population and the median age of the deceased is 83 years. And not only that: in Sweden there is even the well-known seasonal flu (influenza) back againthat had virtually disappeared during the Covid season.
Austria would do well to drop all restrictions in order to finally enable people and companies to lead a completely normal life again. Without forced vaccinations, without booster obligations, without vaccination certificates, without restrictions on capacities in restaurants or anywhere else. They are just unnecessary and completely nonsensical. Even if a Federal Chancellor Nehammer does not want to understand.
