The young employee in the Ministry of Finance has just become a mother, she was never politically active, never pushed public: Nonetheless, Susanne Thier, Sebastian Kurz’s long-term partner, was now the victim of the makers of the small Viennese weekly “Falter” – the wife of Ex-Federal Chancellor and ex-ÖVP boss is shown with bare bosom as Maria in the nativity scene.
Such a tasteless sexist assault that the wife or partner of a chancellor or other top politician is exposed in public to bare breasts has never occurred in the Second Republic: It has also been unimaginable until now, Eveline Steinberger-Kern or Martina Faymann or Krista Bring bowl in such a way in a printing unit.
All limits in the fight against a political competitor have apparently fallen – Austria’s ultra-left journalists target even the closest members of bourgeois or right-wing politicians in their attempts to discredit and ridicule.
The outrage over this approach of the “Falter” bosses is already great on the social media platforms. One Twitter user wrote: “It’s not all bad. it’s sexist and weird. ” Another Austrian posted: “This cover is just disgusting.” And one user says: “The Falter has screwed its radicalization so far that it must now be called the left-wing propaganda journal.”
Many readers have already announced that they want to submit advertisements to the press council. However, it is very questionable whether the “Falter” faces consequences from this body.
