It is the third generation of the Pröll family who hold important positions within the People’s Party. Erwin Pröll was governor of Lower Austria for many years and thus one of the most powerful switches in the federal party. His nephew Josef Pröll became its chairman in 2008 and was vice chancellor until his resignation in 2011. Son Alexander was already there and politically interested, he later ended up in Chancellor Kurz’s cabinet.
Laura Sachslehner apparently remains as general secretary responsible for content-related matters, while Pröll should take care of party finances, for example. The ÖVP merged the two functions in 2020 in the person of Axel Melchior. Melchior had also resigned from his posts shortly after Kurz resigned.
