The study, published in the British Medical Journal, found that the likelihood of developing heart problems after vaccination may be related to the vaccine being used. According to this, a Moderna vaccination is “associated with a higher risk of myocarditis or pericarditis” than is the case with the Biontech vaccine. However, the probability is very low even with Moderna, as the scientists note.
In particular, people between the ages of 12 and 39 have an increased risk of heart inflammation. But generally not high: Even among the under 40-year-olds who were vaccinated with Moderna, only about 0.005 percent were affected, as the German newspaper Bild writes.
Of the 21 people diagnosed with myocarditis or pericarditis within one month of being vaccinated with Moderna, more than half could be discharged from hospital within 72 hours. None of them died because of it. The researchers also looked at the risk of heart inflammation at Biontech / Pfizer: Here, vaccination was only associated with an increased risk in women. But: According to the researchers, it is more likely that you will suffer heart problems from a corona infection than from the vaccination.
The study is particularly noteworthy because it was very extensive: the data from almost five million participants were evaluated for this purpose.
