“Driving home for christmas”… Chris Rea describes in his Christmas classic an idyllic drive home and the anticipation of the loved ones. But Josep Martinez would definitely have imagined the drive home differently. The Spanish substitute goalkeeper from RB Leipzig was involved in a car accident, according to the Bild newspaper. Martinez (23) was at the airport in Leipzig at the terminal for private aircraft. When turning around, Martinez missed a minibus.
Then, according to the German newspaper, he collided with the vehicle. An ambulance and the fire department were there. Martinez himself was uninjured, but he suffered a shock in the accident. It is not known whether Martinez made his way home after this incident. On Saturday Martinez was still on the bench in Leipzig’s 2-0 defeat against Bielefeld.
