There are very ambitious climate targets in the EU. By 2050 the EU wants to CO2– operate neutrally and reduce emissions by 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. But despite all the exuberance, care must be taken to ensure that companies are not overwhelmed by this, says EU Commissioner Thierry Breton: “The EU must ensure that we help our companies through the two major transitions that stand before us: the Energy transition and the digital transformation. “
“We have to double our electricity generation capacity in Europe by 2050. But today a quarter of all electricity in Europe comes from nuclear power. Doubling electricity production by 2050 on this basis is simply not possible without nuclear power. That the EU without nuclear power CO2-can become neutral is a lie. We can only achieve the goals of the European Green Deal with nuclear power. The numbers speak for themselves, we have to be realistic, ”said EU Commissioner Thierry Breton.
“Our goal is the CO2-Neutrality by 2050 and any technical means to achieve this goal is a good idea. CO2-Neutrality by 2050 is not possible in the EU without nuclear power. The national energy mix is a matter for the governments of the Member States and I respect their decisions. Germany and some other countries have decided to give up nuclear power completely. That means, Germany has to set up wind turbines everywhere and plaster the landscape with solar systems ”.
