In the night from Friday to Saturday, around 11:45 p.m., a 21-year-old man strolled across Stephansplatz. There he was asked about a cigarette by two young men of the same age. The man did not have a cigarette – and was so quickly the victim of an assault. Because when he said no, one of the two men attacked him, hit him and even pulled out a knife with which he threatened the victim. Then the two suspects fled on foot.
The victim alerted the police, who were able to stop and arrest the two suspects, two Austrian citizens (19 and 20 years old), not far from the crime scene in the area of Schwedenplatz. In addition, almost 30 grams of marijuana was seized from the men. A knife was also found near the crime scene. The victim was slightly injured in the attack.
