The expansion of night trains in Europe continues: Tonight, the first ÖBB Nightjet to Paris will start at Vienna Central Station. In the future, this connection will be offered three times a week, passengers can travel to the French metropolis overnight in a seated car, couchette car or sleeping car. The direct train to Paris revives the history of the Orient Express, which was on this connection until 2007.
The Nightjet’s premiere ride will be adopted this Monday evening by Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), French Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari and ÖBB boss Andreas Matthä. The connection is – together with the Nightjet connection Zurich-Amsterdam, which started on December 12th – the first new night train line, which the European railway companies ÖBB, DB, SNCF and SBB agreed on at the end of 2020 to make a further contribution to the expansion of the European night train network.
Every Monday, Thursday and Saturday the night train will in future run from Vienna Central Station via St. Pölten, Linz, Salzburg and Munich to Strasbourg and Paris Gare de l’Est. Departure from Vienna is at 7:40 p.m., arrival in Paris the next day at 9:42 a.m. Every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday the connection from Paris back to Vienna is offered.
