The “Black Lives Matter” movement (BLM) is known for making provocative announcements. In addition to regular taunts against fair-skinned people, anti-Semitic statements and a relevant perpetrator-victim image that is spread by the movement, an appeal by BLM has now caused an international uproar. So “black people” should not buy from “white companies”. The money should be spent where so-called PoCs have the say. The movement describes all non-white people as PoC, so-called “People of Color”.
Under the banner of “Black Xmas”, the BLM movement is spreading calls for a boycott of whites on all channels. Among other things, it says: “Black Xmas challenges us to shake off the chains of consumerism and enter fully into our own collective power, to build new traditions (..) Let us use our economic power to destroy white supremacist capitalism and a black community to build up. “
The reactions to the boycott call are almost exclusively negative. Even on the movement’s Instagram page, users vent their anger: “You fight racism with even more racism” or “Christmas is a Christian festival and has nothing to do with skin color.” An annoyed user writes: “This is the way to divide society even further!”
