The aircraft, a new Boeing 737 Max 8, took off with 100 passengers from O’Hare Airport in Chicago and landed at Reagan Airport in Washington, around 1,000 kilometers away. A few weeks ago the British Air Force also completed a flight using synthetic fuel for the first time. The Ikarus C42 ultralight aircraft was used.
Airlines are currently only allowed to use a maximum of 50 percent of the artificial fuel for passenger flights. United Airlines obtained special approval from the US aviation authority for the flight. This has proven “that there are no differences between the fuels and that the requirements for the use of artificial fuel by all airlines are possible,” said a broadcast by the airline.
