Plakolm, who moved into the National Council in 2017 at the age of 22 as the youngest member, was already politically active in the People’s Party in her youth. She has been a councilor in her Upper Austrian home municipality of Walding since 2015. In May 2021 she was elected federal chairwoman of the Young People’s Party.
“I am looking forward to my new role as State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery and I approach this task with respect,” Plakolm announced in a broadcast on Friday. She promises to be “a strong voice for young people in Austria and to ensure that their concerns are heard in daily government work”.
