Giordano, from northern Italy, was appointed as the successor to French Archbishop Alain Lebeaupin as papal ambassador to the EU just this May. In September he was infected with Covid-19.
Giordano had been apostolic nuncio in the crisis country Venezuela since 2013, before moving to Strasbourg in 2008 as a permanent observer of the Holy See at the Council of Europe. From 1995 to 2008 he was Secretary General of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) based in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Born in northern Italy, he studied in his hometown of Cuneo and at the Gregorian University in Rome. Giordano was born on August 20, 1954.
