Austria has already had seven days of tough lockdown, the fourth wave is still raging across our country. Even if the number of infections has decreased a little, calls are already being made from the SPÖ (via Pamela Rendi-Wagner) for an extension of the curfew, which for unvaccinated people “only” should last up to and including December 12th. But does the current lockdown actually bring anything? And what should actually be done if a Covid test is actually positive? What really helps, and above all: How can I help myself? EXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmitt asks our “Medicus”, the renowned internist Dr. Marcus Franz.
Dr. Franz rates the current coronavirus situation in Austria as by far not as bad as it is drawn by the government and the media, the “alarmism” that is currently being pursued cannot be justified by comparing figures with the situation a year ago, he said Expert. Dr. Franz, that we are testing more than ever before, and that we can discover more positive cases than ever before. And even if the test result is positive: The majority of the course of the disease with a corona infection is very mild and can be treated well on an outpatient basis within your own four walls. The phase between the 7th and 10th day is critical, says Franz: “The most dangerous time is that between the 7th and 10th day. Then the immune system runs by storm on the spike protein, and here I have to pay special attention to myself and my body. One of the most important values here is oxygen saturation, ”explains Dr. Franz. You can now easily find this at home using your own device. The saturation can be determined very easily with a so-called pulse oximeter. The critical limit, which should not be undercut, is 90 percent.
