The mass start world champion from Tyrol only had to bow to the faultless individual world champion Marketa Davidova from the Czech Republic in the 15 km individual competition in Östersund (Sweden) on Saturday (+1: 17.7 minutes). Hauser also shone with just one mistake on the shooting range and took her eighth podium of her career.
It was no longer noticeable that Hauser had struggled a little with her shooting consistency in the summer. The 27-year-old’s first 15 shots all hit the target. Other big names – such as the Norwegian overall World Cup title holder Tiril Eckhoff (5 mistakes), the South Tyrolean Dorothea Wierer (4) or local hero Hanna Öberg (5) – sprinkled mistakes after mistakes. Even with a final “zero” at the shooting range, Hauser’s third individual World Cup victory would have been out of reach, as the winner Davidova was much faster on the trail. Third place went to the German Denise Herrmann (1 / + 1: 23.0).
The other Austrians, Julia Schweiger (3 / + 5: 28.4), Dunja Zdouc (2 / + 5: 41.7), Anna Juppe (4 / + 6: 42.9) and Christina Rieder (4), missed partly clearly the top 40. (APA)
