More and more children who are infected with the coronavirus need medical care in the hospital in Salzburg. According to a current report, a newborn with a suspected corona was admitted to the parent-child ward of the children’s hospital in the Salzburg University Clinic. It is currently not possible to verify whether the corona virus is the actual reason for admission. It is one of five children and adolescents who are currently in hospital because of a coronavirus infection. The little boy (5) who has been in the intensive care unit in the overloaded hospital for a few days still needs intensive medical treatment.
The Covid forecast consortium assumes that the need for hospital beds for corona patients will continue to increase across Austria. Leading experts refer to the “time lag between infection acquisition and hospitalization”. Because of this, “no relaxation in the hospitals is to be expected in the next 14 days and a further increase in the intensive-care surface is likely”. This could then “flatten” in the first week of December, but experts warn against a premature sigh of relief on the part of politicians. The possible flattening occurs “at a very high, sometimes system-critical level of over 600 occupied intensive care beds”.
